What Is Cryptocurrency?

It’s a cryptographically-secured asset issued by a decentralized blockchain network. Crypto transactions are fast, private, cost-effective, borderless, and secure.

Unlike fiat money, crypto assets are not regulated or backed by any central authority like a government. The value of a cryptocurrency depends on its native blockchain, use cases, public acceptance, institutional interest, and other factors that affect supply and demand.

As a result, most cryptos are highly volatile, meaning their price may change rapidly and often unpredictably. However, this behavior does not apply to stablecoins including Tether (USDT).
